[Name]: 86, or Rosario Provencano
[Canon]: Vassalord
[Age]: 26
[Gender]: Male
[Canon Point]: At the end of the manga after he disappears.
[History]: It’s unknown exactly when Rosario got involved with the Mafia, or even if this name is anything more than an alias. But seeing as it’s the only proper name given throughout the entire manga to this man called 86, we will assume that it is in fact his real name, and his backstory associated with it is a part of his actual history.
So let’s start there. Rosario Provencano was born and raised in Italy where 6 years ago he inherited a ton of money which made him into a multi-millionaire. Since then he has decided not to work and instead travels the world. This all fits in with what we learn about 86 over time.
What we learn about his early years in the Mafia comes from a man called Liu Yaoding, who once went under the name of ONE. Both he and 86 are a part of a mafia organization called “Nulla” which stands for “nothing”. The top position belongs to the one called “Zero”. According to Yaoding he and 86 were in a power struggle to reach this high and mighty position. He also states that he never understood why 86 never made it past the rank of “86”, but then gets cut off when he’s about to reveal that he actually is…
Thank you Yaoding for that great declaration of nothing.
However when we are first introduced to 86, who currently has been captured and was handcuffed to a toilet, the ex-Detective Craig states “You’re Zero right now, aren’t you.” So we can assume that, that was what Yaoding was about to reveal to his lovely wife and us the audience. Yes, the man who never made it higher than 86 in this mafia organization where numbers are declarations of power had beat number one and became…Zero.
He then was rumored to have been chased out of Italy by Yaoding, who is known as the current head of Nulla. Where we can guess that he then went to America, because that was where he was found and kept by Craig. What a vacation.
While Craig travels to Italy to try and make a human trade using 86 as collateral, 86 continues to be trapped in the bathroom. But just as one of the Mafia reach the apartment to procure the man, he is missing. Somehow, he un-handcuffed himself and now was free to do whatever.
Which apparently involved shooting up a shady gun shop, retrieving the black card he left there, and then using his millions of dollars to buy a crap ton of books on demons and invade the Vatican. It does not become apparent what the black card does, but can be assumed that it’s similar to a never ending credit card which allows him to get as much money as he desires from his accounts. It may also just be a card allowing him proof to his position. Who knows, it’s a black card, it’s apparently more important than the thousands of dollars he just left behind or all the weaponry. Mr. Shady gun shop owner may now have two new holes in his body, but he is also now a very rich man.
The reason he purchased the books was to deliver them to a cyborg vampire hunter named Charles who at the time was trying to figure out the name of the devil he was dealing with. He was told that by learning, and saying the name, that the power of the devil he was fighting would be gone. The angel 86 has a tendency to speak with told him that by bringing these books to Charles he would make Charles happy. So he did, and he wasn’t so much as happy as he was freaked out that suddenly there was a druggie sleeping on his couch holding a teddy bear. Craig was also there, and was a lot less surprised by the sudden appearance of the man he had handcuffed to his toilet in America.
Craig later explains to Charles about 86’s ability to know things, explaining that he’ll be a big help during their investigation. This is also when we learn about 86’s rumored relationship with an Angel. The ex-detective then goes to the church where he finds 86 in the pew’s and assigns him a special job, to find out who and where a certain child is.
This child is called Harold Wayne, who at the time is posing as the son of a powerful man named Alford. His “father” is the person that Charles and Craig had been going after, a rich man who has developed and is selling a drug called Vassalord that turns people into vampires. This drug had been making its rounds, getting into the systems of many powerful and famous people and causing a lot of death.
It doesn’t take him long to complete this particular mission. With Craig on the back they ride off and find Harold with Miller, a known subordinate of Alford’s. You see, Harold was Alford this entire time, and at this point he had just made a deal with Charles. This deal involved Charles’s cooperation and in return, he would help save his masters life, who after a major battle with the incubus Barry, was left in a severely weakened state.
This vampire was known as Rayflo, and otherwise known as Adam. He was the first Vampire born on this world. And Rayfell, who was born of Rayflo’s rib became known as Eve. Rayfell saves Barry from dying, although he never heals completely, this is due to the fact he and his father, Beliel (the Devil) was separated by Charles who had figured out Beliel's name.
86, Craig, Rayfell, Barry, and Rayfell’s adopted child Cheryl all realized the situation before them and after a trip to the bar formed a rather strange rescue team. After some discussion they then decided to send Barry and 86 out to find Alford’s hidden base and what they can about Charles’s and Rayflo’s situation. 86 at first refuses but then is promised to be whipped by Barry if he acts up. This gains his cooperation really fast. Not because he doesn’t want to be whipped, but the opposite in fact.
And so, an Incubus, a druggie, and a robotic dog begin their search. And the first thing they do is hunt down Charles who was now acting under Alford’s orders and has become a model and the face of popularity. They manage to find a restaurant that was found to be Charles’s last location and paid off the owner to tell them all he could.
Using this, they then track down the rich family that has promised to take Charles under their wing. While the incubus attracts and holds the attention of the wife, 86 convinces the papa to help them with the next part of their plan! <3
This involves 86 gathering an army of mercenaries and figuring out a way to invade Wayne’s secret base. Rayflo manages to escape during this time, and joins up with 86 and Barry, who later inform Rayfell and the others. They all meet up and begin their invasion/extraction mission.
It starts with Cheryl and papa who enter the place, and then 86 joins them under the name Rosario Provencano who creates suspicion with his knowledge of a party happening (information he extracted along the way). He plays his role of a flamboyant rich boy very well, and soon is asked to meet Alford. He’s separated from the other two and isolated in the top room, where he gives the signal to begin the attack via a flashlight outside the window.
86 soon regrets this, as Alford appears on a giant screen and summons guards into the room, demanding Rosario take off his eye patch because he feels like he recognizes the man. (he was wearing an eye patch as part of his disguise.) 86 does as commanded in the hope that Alford would tell the guards to stand down, thusly saving their lives. From what exactly? A plane being piloted by Rayfell that comes crashing into the room a moment later. Although upset by this, he continues the mission. Delivering the guns like his job entails while Rayfell is left to find and save those who had aided in Rayflo’s escape. He then continued to command his army, all the while taking out guard after guard and distracting Alford and the rest from discovering the mercenaries who were entering the compound.
86 and his army kept the Nocticans (the vampires turned via the drug called Vassalord) out of the way while Rayflo and Craig went after Alford and Charles. Did you think Charles was going to have it easy yet? Nope, there's a bomb in his head that will blow if he leaves Alford’s side.
To find out what happens with that you’ll have to read the manga!
Meanwhile with 86 and co they find themselves trapped along with the surviving Nocticans in a building full of monsters and explosives. But thanks to a good man named Walter Ascam they all make it out okay. Once everyone is in the clear, both solider and vampire, 86 runs off to find Cheryl. He gives her an important instruction that leads her to Rayfell who nearly lost herself to the devil's tricks.
It can be said that this is the moment where he decides to leave a peculiar message at the hideout. This message reads, “There are still more than ten good people, therefore I cannot return yet” And is signed with his number. This was clearly directed to Yaoding.
While the last battle is finishing up, 86 blows the base sky high, destroying any and all evidence of Vassalord and the information about the Nocticans along with it.
The rescue team all meet up one final time, before going their separate ways. 86 then disappears, and isn’t seen again.
HE THEN WENT OFF TO BECOME A PIRATE AND SAIL THE HIGH SEAS! :D
[Personality]: 86 is one hell of a person. He’s both a warrior of god and a sadomasochistic Mafioso all mixed into one.
To understand 86 you have to remember that he is fueled by two things, drugs and pleasure. He derives his pleasure from pain, both causing pain and receiving pain. But his joy in causing pain onto others isn’t due to any kind of blood lust, but because he truly believes pain is pleasurable. This is because he is a masochist, and he is rather insane. But for the most part he prefers to be the one getting the beating, and less of the one causing it. He does not go into unnecessary battles and he never hurts the one’s he’s working with. This show’s us he does have a certain understanding that this glee is wrong, perhaps even sick, but it doesn’t stop him from reacting any differently.
It is also important to know that he does not do any long lasting damage, or bring upon death to another. He may act, and seem like a completely battle crazed lunatic but he has a clear set of morals and a line that he will not cross. This may be why he never made it past the number 86, because he refuses to annihilate his enemies. He will also leave someone alive and capable so that the one’s he took down will be taken care of alright. Even though he’s part of a dangerous organization known for throwing traitors into a vat of acid, or burying people in the cement walls of abandoned buildings, he gets really upset when people do die, even if it’s not by his own hands.
This is seen when 86 is speaking to Alford Wayne and is being ordered to remove his eye patch and reveal his identity, or else he’d lose his life. But he didn’t care about himself, he cared about the guards in the room with him pointing guns at his back. He was so very desperate to save these men he begged Alford to get them out and easily gave away his cover in the hopes that they would be ordered to stand down and leave the room. Because he knew what was coming, he had given the signal earlier when the room was empty and he expected it to stay as such. When the plane came crashing in he couldn’t look, covering his head, and then he burst into tears. He yelled at the angel, asking why, why he hadn’t told him this was going to happen. He said if he’d known he would have delayed the signal.
But he understands that he was on an important mission, and forces himself to switch from the saint back to the devil who brought pain/pleasure onto his enemies. Not another life was lost in that room!
Speaking of his angel… It’s less that he’s in control of it, but more that the Angel was guiding him along his path. Often times he listens to the angel, and talks back and forth with him. Craig even calls him the Boss angel, but it’s less that he’s 86’s boss then he was his friend. I can’t see that 86 with his deformed eye and strange behavior to be someone who had a lot of friends when he was younger. In fact nobody even remembers him in Nulla except Yaoding. Thusly this companionship is very important to him, and not something he denies, or tries to hide. The reason why I say he’s not the boss of 86 is because they do get into arguments, and he doesn’t always listen to him. Before they storm the secret base his angel actually disapproved of the plan, saying it wasn’t a normal base and that is was dangerous, but 86 say’s that he’s going to storm it anyway! But that he also understands his concern.
Why can he talk to an angel?
Because he was chosen by god, along with Yaoding, to be the heads of his army which will eventually go fourth and start a war with vampires and the church and wipe away disorder from the world. Thusly bringing back the balance that had been teetering since the creation of Vampires.
Genesis 19:24 “Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the heavens on Sodom and Gomorrah.” In Vassalord this phrase is the explanation behind 86 and Yaodings story. 86 is Fire, the one that receives the will of god and brings about god’s judgment onto the world. To perform his duties he travels the world and seeks out the good men until the day war must begin. On that day he will finally go back to his best friend, Yaoding who is sulfur, and they will bring about utter destruction to the Devils plans. This is not shown inside the manga, but is hinted as their future and is told as an explanation as to why 86 refuses to go back to One, despite the fact they both so desperately wish to see one another again.
Although 86 often times acts as irrationally and wildly as Fire itself he is in fact a very wise man. He has dealt with so much throughout his short lifespan on this world and seen more than anyone should. He is in fact intelligent, and has shown great prowess in figuring out a situation and planning accordingly for the best possible outcome. He is a good leader, who earned not just the soldiers of his make shift armies complete respect but also Rayflo’s and the others. It was undeniable that those men were there because of 86, and the entire battle was won mostly due to 86.
But he is also young, and I believe the stress of such an important destiny, as well as the influence of the Mafia is what ended up turning him to drugs. He does not shy away from this weakness, but instead embraces it and uses it to his advantage by acting the part of your everyday, ridiculous, drug addict.
He is truly a man who has chosen to accept his every fault and just run with it. He won’t let anything keep him down, and he will deal with whatever comes his way. You can insult him, beat him up, and treat him like a piece of trash on the road and he will continue to smile. But he will not let anyone talk shit about Nulla. This truly show’s how much he still cares about his mafia family and that even as he is acting as the righteous warrior of god he is also still ZERO.
He also show’s is more Mafioso side when dealing with people he needs information from. He will use fear and money to bribe people into talking, but he does not go so far as to torture them. 86 is often times seen leaving huge amount of cash behind every place he destroys/shoots up, other than the secret base. This shows that he does reflect on the fact he’s bringing mayhem into these establishments and involving real people that may only have had a small part inside this huge plot.
86 does not say good bye when he leaves, he just does, but there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that he will do just fine.
[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
Sight: 86 has the ability to see into far off distances. This is clearly shown in two instances. First time was when he spotted a Mafia sniper on a building a 100 or so yards off. The second was when he spotted guards taking out some news photographers who had snuck onto the property. He managed to see this despite the cover of the trees and despite the fact he was high up on a cliff.
Aim: His ability to hit his mark is inhumane. Even though it may seem like he’s shooting without a care in the world, he is actually showing this ability off and hiding it under an insane behavior. He tends to aim for limbs, or in one case threw a hunters knife striking the rock and just barely avoiding taking off Rayflo’s nose. Rayflo, being the father of vampires, is very quick. The fact 86 could figure out the vampire’s next movements early enough to throw the knife and have it strike just when he needed it too really does say a lot about his ability.
Perception: It doesn’t matter what costume you may be wearing, he can see past it. He can tell a person’s soul just by watching them for a while, this goes for everyone. The reason he’s traveling the world is to find those with a good soul. He can also figure out one’s past through how they look and act towards different things.
Angel: ANGEL BOSS! :D he talks to an angel he never calls by name. Often times this is mistaken as a druggies delusional dreams but a few have come to believe it. The angel tends to guide his actions and leads him to those that need some define assistance. He doesn’t answer questions, nor does he talk about a lot of things. One time 86 got really upset with his guiding deity when he failed to inform him that people would be dying in the course of this plan.
Pain: Pain doesn’t affect him, in fact he seems really enjoy it, he craves it. He’s a serious masochist, so if you’re going to strike be ready for an unusual reaction.
Weakness: He’s not immortal, nor does he have any major super powers governing over his ability to heal or his strength or anything. He’s thin and his body is screwed due to all the drugs and damage it’s taken. If he doesn’t have a weapon he’s pretty screwed in a battle and will die. He also can be captured as shown in when we’re first introduced to the character. Also the angel doesn’t appear to say anything to him about his own future and wellbeing, only the desires of others.
He will not know anything about Davy Jones, he will not know where the shards of the gem are unless his crew is selected to receive said shard, he will not be able to predict what will happen in a battle. I will have a permission post of what he will know, can help with if this character is accepted.
[Other Important Facts]: He will often times go from ship to ship and help out everyone and anyone. His services can be paid for via drugs, alcohol, or pain, but only if the task requested will not force him to turn on a friend or target a good man. If you’re a good man he will protect you and try to guide you to the best outcome in whatever struggle you’re dealing with.❤
